"Flower Girl" is a body of work that explores the emotional undertones of AI generated imagery and how it represents the human experience in American culture, particularly as it relates to gender experiences and expectations. While creating images of women sitting in flower fields, the artist noticed a distinct melancholic quality to the women's demeanor, postures and facial expressions across all of the generated imagery. Having not been prompted, the AI created listless and sometimes visibly uncomfortable subjects amidst vibrant landscapes rich with flora and sunlight. Given the controversial nature of how AI sources imagery from a vast catalog of existing materials, the photorealistic generated results highlight the emotional undertones already present in our culture, inviting the viewer to consider the implications of the results.
