This piece features a mix of images inspired by family vacation photos and vintage postcards. It features multiple painted scenes layered together. It is about how so many of us have photos from family vacations to places like Panama City Beach. We’ve all seen postcards from these southern beach destinations too. In our minds, the family photographs and postcards we’ve seen so many times can sometimes mix. Did that memory really happen or was it a montage of familiar images? If it brings us joy, does it matter?
The young girl in the painting is my aunt, standing next to my grandmother, whom I never met. Through old photographs, stories, and memorabelia, I feel like I knew her, though.
